Carbon Drive Belt Bike
A belt-mounted bike is nothing new to us – we've been offering them to our customers for several years. However, this model is truly unique. Belt tension is achieved by sliding the dropouts through precise guides. But that's not all, because by swapping them out, you can convert your bike to a single-speed, a traditional road or MTB drivetrain, or even a fixed-gear bike. One frame, dozens of possibilities! A lightweight steel bike for a multitude of uses!
Advantages of belt-drive bikes from Antymateria
Steel is our specialty, and this one is no exception. The frame of the bike with a belt is slim and absorbs vibrations, yet it's lightweight thanks to the use of butted tubing. Our bike is short, agile, and encourages dynamic riding. We've chosen the angles to complement both straight handlebars and drop bars. Perfect for everyday riding, fun in the woods, or a road trip. If this reminds you of gravel inspiration, you're absolutely right. What else? You can choose from a carbon or steel fork. Additionally, without fenders, it can accommodate tires up to 45 mm wide, and with fenders up to 37 mm. Our bike with a belt also has all the necessary mounts for loading it with racks and panniers. Internal cable routing ensures reliable operation of all mechanisms.
Carbon Drive Belt Drive Bike – Clean and Reliable
The Gates Carbon Drive belt we're using here is several times more durable than a traditional chain. It stretches much slower, so it doesn't need to be retightened frequently, even after several thousand kilometers. It also doesn't require lubrication – it's quiet and weather-resistant. A bike with this belt is an ideal choice for those who ride frequently and in all weather conditions. Another advantage is that the belt stays clean and doesn't require lubrication. It also runs very quietly and is lightweight. Thanks to the previously mentioned locking hook system, all maintenance tasks (such as replacing a tube) can be performed without having to reset the tension.
Carbon fibre belt drive city bike – is it a good choice for city riding?
A belt-driven city bike is a great choice for getting around town. Its advanced technology and thoughtful design ensure maximum cleanliness. The belt drive doesn't accumulate dirt like a chain-driven bike, making everyday city riding hassle-free and enjoyable. Designed to withstand heavy use, the belt-driven bike is perfectly suited to tackling the various challenges of urban surfaces.
Types of Gates Carbon Drive belts
Gates Carbon Drive belts are valued for their exceptional durability, ensuring long service life. They are made of 11 mm wide carbon fiber. They are an excellent replacement for chain drives, as they are more durable than chains. Among the belt types offered by this company are the CDN belt, the CDX belt, and the CDC belt.
Does the belt require special maintenance?
A bicycle's drive belt doesn't require any special maintenance compared to traditional chain systems. This type of drive doesn't require regular lubrication or cleaning, as it's resistant to dirt and moisture. However, it's worth checking the belt tension periodically to ensure all components are in good working order.
Hubs and gears for bicycles without a chain – what to pay attention to?
In a belt-driven bicycle, proper matching of components such as hubs and gears is crucial. Hubs must be selected to work with the belt, ensuring proper tension (we recommend a Shimano Alfine 8 or 11 planetary hub, for example). Gears, if used, should be compatible with the entire belt system and precisely matched to avoid power transfer issues.
Bicycle accessories and equipment
In our Antymateria online store, you can choose a bike with the basic Shimano Alfine 8 drivetrain (this is the basic version – more than sufficient for riding in various conditions) or choose another drive from our proposals:
- Single Speed – dedicated to lovers of minimalism, this is a wonderfully maintenance-free bike;
- Shimano Alfine – Shimano's top-of-the-line gear hub allows for perfect gear selection on any terrain; it is also possible to fold the bike using dedicated shifters and road handlebars.
We have various sizes of bicycles available on the belt:
- S – ideal for people between 155-168 cm tall;
- M – Ideal for people between 168-178 cm tall;
- L – Ideal for people between 178-186 cm tall;
- XL – Ideal for people between 185-195 cm tall.
You can also choose a bike in one of the available colors or choose your own from the RAL Classic color palette. Choosing your own color means a longer wait for your bike, as it's made to order.
What is the difference between a V-belt and a toothed belt and a carbon belt?
V-belts, toothed belts, and carbon belts differ in design and application. A toothed belt bicycle uses a belt with teeth that engage with the gear teeth, ensuring precise power transfer while minimizing the risk of slippage. A V-belt has a simpler design and is less efficient at transmitting power compared to carbon and toothed belts. A carbon belt is an advanced version of the toothed belt, reinforced with carbon fiber, providing high durability and tensile strength.
Disadvantages of a belt drive in a bicycle
Despite many advantages, a belt drive in a bicycle also has a few disadvantages:
- it is usually more expensive compared to traditional chain systems;
- tightening the belt may be problematic;
- lower availability of spare parts and service points;
- troublesome inner tube replacement.
Create a belt drive bike to your specifications!
Belt-driven bikes are becoming increasingly popular. The advantages of a belt drive are numerous, including the fact that it requires no lubrication. Initially, we offer our belt-driven bike with an eight-speed Shimano Alfine transmission. However, there's nothing stopping you from equipping it with drop handlebars or an 11-speed hub. For minimalists, we suggest a single-speed. However, these aren't the only options – if you tire of a belt drive, simply change the dropouts and install a traditional drivetrain – either road or MTB. We also offer a sister model with the same frame – the AT (All Terrain).
Suggest your vision for a bike – we can build it with any components and groupset. When you buy a bike with a belt instead of a chain from our store, you can be sure you're buying a unique, high-quality bike that won't disappoint!
