Campagnolo Super Record X - Campy's Gravel Drivetrain

Campagnolo joins the gravel scene with the new Super Record X —a groupset designed specifically for fast all-road and gravel riding. This isn't an adaptation of a road bike setup, but rather a design designed from the ground up for off-road riding, with greater stability and a wider gear range in mind.

Key features

Super Record X is a 1×/13-speed drivetrain with a 9-42 cassette. The range is wide, and the gearing is designed to maintain rhythm on varied terrain. The biggest new feature is the rear clutch mechanism (nano clutch) , which reduces chain hop and reduces the risk of chain drops on bumps.

A modified 12T/16T pulley cage improves chain management throughout the cassette's range. The derailleur works with chainrings up to 48T at the front, allowing for significantly greater configuration flexibility.

Premium version: Ultra Kit

The offer also includes the Ultra Kit —a lighter, more race-oriented set of components featuring lighter materials and higher-quality bearings. It reduces weight compared to the standard Super Record X and emphasizes its sporty character. This is a solution for those who want to get the most out of their equipment.

What does it give you?

In practice, the Super Record X does exactly what you expect from a modern gravel drivetrain: it operates stably, confidently, and without unnecessary noise. Gear changes are quick and precise, and the clutch provides a smooth ride over bumps. The 9-42 cassette allows you to maintain a steady pace on flat surfaces, but doesn't close the road off on steep climbs—the range is wide, and the transitions are sensibly tailored for off-road riding.

Summary

The Super Record X is a set for those who approach gravel riding sportily and appreciate Campagnolo's precise character. Its biggest limitation is the lack of a 2x option, which won't appeal to everyone. This drivetrain isn't designed for heavy expedition gear either. However, if gravel means fast all-road riding for you, not bikepacking, this is one of the most interesting new offerings on the market.
