Although we published information about our competition for a city bike guide on April 1st, it was by no means a joke! We are delighted to present the results today. For those who don't follow our blog, the competition was aimed at students and required them to write a text about exploring a given city by bike. Why are we undertaking this initiative? We approach our bikes, and more broadly, what we do at Antymateria, with a bit of a mission. We simply believe that cycling is the best means of transportation. Both for the environment and for ourselves. We also wanted to show how much fun it is to explore and discover cities from the saddle. And who better to show and describe a city than someone who (we hope!) regularly cycles through it?
Competition entries
We tried to share information about the competition as widely as possible, trying to reach student portals, university websites, forums, Facebook groups for people interested in bicycles, etc., etc. Ultimately, we received nine submissions. Is that a lot? Of course, there are competitions where the number of submissions reaches into the thousands, but ours required a truly significant commitment. We are therefore more than pleased with the number of submissions. More importantly, the quality of the texts and photos was truly excellent. All submissions also met all formal requirements (length, topics covered, number of photos, etc.). After not very long internal discussions (aided by a table with a list of criteria and a training grading scale), we managed to select the winners.Awarded
First place and the main prize (a bicycle with a belt) went to Mateusz Pławski. We'll soon publish a post on our blog, illustrated with beautiful photos of Wrocław. You'll have the opportunity to judge our results for yourself. We were surprised by the next winner, Filip Waroczyk, who, although nominally from Wrocław, decided to write a guide to a city (or rather, a place) that probably few people are familiar with. The guide to Milcz received a special mention and will be featured on gazeta.pl. Besides the quality of the material itself, we were captivated by the passion with which Filip described the area he loves. As mentioned, all the submissions we received were of a good, consistent standard. In two cases (where the cities overlapped), we had considerable difficulty selecting the winning submissions. The final selections are in alphabetical order (with the city that served as the basis for the guide being indicated):- Magdalena Mróz (POZNAN)
- Artur Pytliński (ELBLĄG)
- Bartosz Szczepaniak (GDANSK)
- Jakub Wierzba (SZCZECIN)
- Dorota Woźniak (GNIEZNO)
- Sets of our (and one of our partners') corporate gifts: including water bottles, mugs, and neck warmers
- Bicycle accessories (locks, lights, etc.)
