New bicycle routes from Warsaw
A few days ago, the first two agreements were signed for the construction (or design, for now) of 550 km of cycling routes. These routes will connect Warsaw with the Łódź, Podlaskie, Warmian-Masurian, and Świętokrzyskie voivodeships.
The new routes will not only connect Warsaw with other cities in the region but will also form part of EuroVelo . They are also intended to offer unique tourist experiences. The project aims to create collision-free routes, running along flood embankments and railway lines, for example. An additional aspect is the integration of the new connections with public transport.

The first contracts have already been signed
The first step is to develop a program concept. Its goal will be to precisely define the routes and develop solutions that will facilitate the project's rapid and effective implementation.
The provincial government signed two agreements. The first concerns the route along the Vistula River and
on the Kozienice – Radom – Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship line, covering sections in the Warsaw metropolitan region (approx. 110 km) and the route from Kozienice to Radom and the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (approx. 95 km). The cost of the first contract is PLN 2.3 million .
The second contract covers the route along the railway lines, connecting Warsaw with Żyrardów
and the Łódź Voivodeship (approx. 60 km), Ciechanów and the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (approx. 100 km), Siedlce and the Podlaskie Voivodeship (approx. 150 km). As well as the first section of the route from Warsaw to Radom along the Warsaw-Radom railway line, connected to the route along the Vistula River (approx. 35 km). The cost of the second contract is PLN 3.6 million.

The voivodeship will soon begin signing contracts for program concepts for additional routes that were re-tendered due to excessively high bid prices. These include routes along the Vistula River in the Masovian region (approximately 170 km), from Warsaw to Ostrołęka and the border of the Podlaskie Voivodeship (approximately 175 km), and from Warsaw to the border of the Lublin Voivodeship (approximately 205 km).
The estimated timeframe for concept development is one year from the signing of the agreements, with the next stage being the preparation of construction designs and investment implementation. The project was made possible thanks to the inclusion of EU funds in the Mazovia region, and cooperation with the Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie, and Lublin voivodeships as part of the "Blue Valley" project will enable the acquisition of additional funds from European Funds for Eastern Poland. Funding for the project will also come from EU funds under the National Operational Programme (KPO), Integrated Territorial Investments (ZIT), and European Funds for Mazovia.
We hope that this way, cyclists from Warsaw will not have to look with envy at the best cycling routes in Europe !
