Last week marked the conclusion of another edition of the Łódź Design Festival . Naturally, the festival covers a wide range of topics, from urban planning and architecture to functional design. However, cycling was also a key focus.
The renowned Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra, or rather Vitra Design Museum (in collaboration with Les Champs Libres from Rennes), was behind the exhibition "Urban Dreams" by Ronan and Erwan Bouroulec. Futuristic visions of what could appear in the city included lianas, waterfalls, pergolas, and hanging forests. More importantly, from our perspective, was the artists' belief that cities of the future would be bike-based or, ultimately, pedestrian-based.
Bicycles, or rather accessories, also appeared at other parts of the Łódź event. As part of the makeme! competition, Jan Libera received a special award for his project "City Bicycle Trailer." This solution is intended to complement the offerings of city bike rentals.
The same competition also featured an innovative bicycle helmet - Lumos, which has already achieved considerable success on the Kickstarter platform.
