We prepare the bike for riding

Just like a car, a bicycle needs to be cared for, its condition monitored, inspections performed, and any faults repaired on a regular basis. This is essential to enjoy comfortable and safe riding for many years. Purchasing a good bicycle is often a significant investment, but it's worth it, as it ensures trouble-free use. However, it's also important to remember that how long a bicycle will serve us well depends on us.

What will you need?

Besides the bike we buy at a bike shop, we should equip ourselves with a few essential accessories. A cyclist's garage should include bicycle tools, including Allen and open-end wrenches, cleaning tools, and tools for the chain, crankset, and cassette. The most cost-effective solution is to purchase a tool kit containing everything we need to repair any problems or prepare our bike for winter riding. Every cyclist will also find a bicycle pump and a bike cover useful. The former should always be carried with you in case your tires deflate during your trip. The cover will protect your vehicle from dirt when stored in the garage or protect the interior of your car.

Efficient brakes guarantee safety

Regularly checking your brakes should be part of your bike preparation routine. How can you check if they're working properly?
  • We're putting on the brakes
  • We move the bike back and forth
  • A wheel rolling with the screw fully unscrewed means that the cable located behind the brake arm needs to be tightened.

…and the chain doesn't fall off!

An improperly tensioned chain is a common problem for cyclists. This stems from a lack of monitoring its condition, and all it takes is simply trying to lift it. If you can easily lift it more than 1 cm, it's a sign that the wheel needs to be pulled back or the chain needs to be replaced. Bicycle lubricants are also useful when checking the condition of your chain. Why? A well-lubricated chain improves ride comfort and safety. Lubrication also protects it from dirt and corrosion.

Cycling season with working wheels

Before getting on your bike after winter, let's check the condition of your tires. Deflate them completely, and by squeezing the tire, you can check the rubber's texture. Next, of course , you'll need a bicycle pump to re-inflate your tires. Tighten any loose spokes using appropriate bicycle tools. Don't forget about the appearance of your bike. It will benefit from a good shower. To restore its shine, all you need is soapy water or dishwashing liquid. After washing your bike, dry it with a soft cloth. Now you can safely travel dozens of kilometers on your bike!
