Gniezno is active
Gniezno is located in the eastern part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. This city is an important center, the cradle of the Polish state, and is filled with history, legends, and myths. Despite its small size, it has much to offer tourists interested in history, and beyond. It's also an ideal place for outdoor recreation, surrounded by numerous lakes and forests.

Cycling infrastructure in Gniezno is not very well developed, but several attractive bike paths are readily available in the city center and its southern part. The low traffic volume in the city center and the limited speed zone also encourage off-path cycling.
Bicycle routes in Gniezno
Several years ago, the Gniezno County created five cycling trails (red, yellow, green, blue, and gray), which lead through the region's most interesting attractions. Each route begins at the Old Market Square in Gniezno and leads to the county's most beautiful spots.
Red route
The red trail is 47.6 km long. The route begins at the Gniezno market square and then leads us towards the northwestern part of the district. It allows us to learn about the history of the beginnings of the Polish state in the beautiful natural setting of the Lednica Landscape Park. We can see Lake Lednica, where Mieszko I most likely received the baptism of Poland, and visit Dziekanowice, home to the largest ethnographic open-air museum in the province. The route continues towards the Lednica fields, known for their annual youth gatherings, and the wooden architecture monuments in Waliszewo and Dębnica. During the trip, we can also see a 19th-century manor house in Rzegnów and a wooden windmill in Rybitwy.
The trail leads us along picturesque, low-traffic country roads, which allows for admiring the scenery. Rest areas are also provided (marked on the map), and in the open-air museum, you can also enjoy refreshments in the building of an old inn.
Yellow route
The yellow trail is 49 km long and allows for exploration of the southern part of the district. Most of the route follows quiet, rural asphalt and gravel roads. A large section leads through the charming Czerniejewskie Forests, between farmland. We can admire nature, but also the palace complex in Czerniejewo, where we can enjoy a meal in the beautiful interiors of the Wozownia Restaurant. In Kosmowo, we will see a 20th-century manor house, and in Leśniewo, an obelisk commemorating Count Skórzewski, the owner of the Czerniejewski estate. The trail begins at the old market square in Gniezno and continues towards Gębarzewo, Czerniejewo, Wierzyce, and Leśniewo.
Blue route
The blue trail is 65 km long, the longest of the marked routes. It leads to numerous lakes located in the eastern part of the district. It's especially worth taking advantage of this route during pleasant weather, when you can take a dip in one of the reservoirs. It's also a great option on hot days, thanks to the numerous forested areas that provide excellent shelter from the sun. The trail begins at the old market square in Gniezno and leads through Osiniec towards Skorzęcin, where a recreation center is located. In the summer, you can enjoy a wide range of dining and entertainment options, as well as rent water sports equipment and bicycles. The trail then leads towards Ostrowite Prymasowski and Miaty.
Green route
The green trail is 45 km long and centers around the northern part of the district. The route begins at the old market square in Gniezno and continues towards Zdziechów and Mielno. It leads us through exceptionally charming royal forests, past lakes and farmland. The roads are quiet and allow for the enjoyment of the surrounding nature. In Zdziechów and Mielno, you can also see a beautiful palace and manor house that once belonged to the Wendorf family estate. It's especially worth visiting in autumn, due to the abundance of mushrooms growing in the local forests.
Gray route
The gray trail is 59 km long and centers around the northeastern part of the district. It leads from the old market square in Gniezno through Jankowo Dolne to Trzemeszno, where it's worth seeing the impressive basilica and the 17th-century Trzemeszno College. The trail then leads towards Duszno, home to an observation tower perched on one of the highest hills in the area. The trail continues to the village of Kruchowo, where it's worth stopping to see a 19th-century manor house. Then, heading through the forests towards Gołąbki, you can visit a recreation center with a campsite, where, in season, you can rent water sports equipment and enjoy dining options.
