For the second time, as part of our collaboration with Dobra Robota, we organized a cycling workshop for women who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. And as it turns out, there's no shortage of them. The second meeting took place in Warsaw's Jazdów district. This Finnish-style housing estate, located almost in the city center, is unique in itself, and it's also filled with a multitude of great initiatives coordinated by the Open Jazdów association. We took over the State City headquarters and cluttered the space with our racks and chairs.

Good Job is Aga and Ula. Aga and Ula organize technical classes for girls, and we value such initiatives. We firmly reject stereotypes. The workshops aimed to provide basic knowledge on maintaining a bike in good condition and dealing with common breakdowns. We began with a theoretical section, explaining the operation of the drivetrain, brakes, and key components, as well as how a tube works in a wheel (which, contrary to appearances, is not so obvious). We answered simple and difficult questions, chatted, and learned interesting things from the participants.
The weather wasn't kind, but we quickly moved inside to stop the rain. In the meantime, we feasted on Warsaw's most bike-friendly pizza from Dwa Osiem, while also demonstrating the capabilities of a cargo bike. The next step was the demonstration – we went over each step of changing a tube, then handed out gloves and tools to the ladies, and let them get started. Of course, we were always on hand to offer advice. Changing a tube and its clamp is the perfect opportunity to learn how to tension the chain, adjust the brakes, and sometimes even set the derailleurs. You can also get to know your bike up close. Finally, we showed them how to properly clean and lubricate the chain (a mistake many people make).
Brave girls
Can you? Of course! All the participants were on board and did better than many a proud guy who'd bought a tube from us himself. It's all about absorbing the knowledge and understanding the simple mechanics of a bicycle. These workshops confirmed our belief that this is a good idea and that such activities should be organized more often. And girls are the best listeners!
Anyway, see for yourself the photos taken by our wonderful Zofia Kowalczyk!
