Velo de Ville x DJI - a new drive or a new standard?

It's easy to reduce the whole Avinox topic to another watts and Newton-meters race. The e-bike industry has been caught in this loop for a while – more power, bigger display, more aggressive "boost." However, in Velo de Ville's case, the partner they chose is more interesting than the motor itself.

DJI is still mostly associated with drones by most people – and it's no wonder, as the company has practically dominated that market for several years. The problem is that DJI stopped being solely a "drone company" a long time ago. A very similar scenario later occurred with action cameras, gimbals, and wireless microphones. Each time it looked similar: entering a mature industry, strong technological background, rapid software development, and shifting user expectations.

That's why the debut of the Avinox system at Eurobike 2024 was hard to treat as a temporary curiosity. Especially since DJI didn't try to compete solely on power from the beginning. Of course, the numbers are impressive – high torque, light drive, fast charging – but the approach to the entire system seems much more important. The app, integration, OTA updates, and safety features resemble modern premium electronics more than the classic e-bike world.

And this is where Velo de Ville seems like a very conscious partner.

VDV has never been a brand known for spectacular premieres and sports marketing. Their strength for years has been utility bikes: well-thought-out configurations, urban and trekking character, and equipment designed more for everyday riding than catalog hype. That's why the REVO-C with Avinox looks like a natural step for a brand that wants to enter the modern premium bike segment more strongly, but without cutting itself off from its own DNA.

Of course, one can argue whether a city bike really needs even 120 Nm of torque. Honestly? In most cases, no. Warsaw still hasn't turned into an Alpine climb, and most users will appreciate good ergonomics, natural assistance, and a sensibly configured bike much more than new records in a table.

However, the premium market is clearly changing direction. Today, users expect exactly the same from an e-bike as they expect from a phone, car, or modern electronics: smooth operation, ease of use, and technology that simply works.

And perhaps that's precisely why DJI's entry into the bicycle world is causing so much excitement in the industry. Not because of the motor's power itself, but because of the experience from other markets. The history of recent years shows that DJI very rarely enters a new category just to become one of many manufacturers.
