Brompton T Line - Titanium in a Folding Bike

Brompton has introduced the T Line model to its offer – the first with a titanium frame. It is also the lightest bike from this brand. In its lightest single-speed configuration, it weighs approximately 7.45 kg, the 4-speed version weighs around 7.9–8 kg, and the 12-speed exceeds 8.5 kg.

For a folding bike, weight is not just a number in the specifications. This type of construction is carried more often than a classic bike – on stairs, platforms, and at building entrances. In such situations, the difference of a few kilograms is immediately noticeable and translates into real comfort of use.

However, the T Line is not merely a lighter version of previous models. The frame is made of titanium tubes, and Brompton has redesigned a large part of the structure: the fork and rear stays are new, the hinges, seatpost, crank, and a range of smaller elements responsible for weight and stiffness have been changed. Carbon also appears in many places – including the handlebars and crank. This affects not only the weight but also how the bike performs under load.

The difference is most noticeable on uneven surfaces. Titanium dampens small vibrations more effectively than steel, which in urban conditions – cobblestones, expansion joints, tram tracks – translates into calmer handling and less fatigue on longer rides.

The drivetrain is also new. The 4-speed version relies on an external derailleur and cassette, without the classic internal gear hub known from earlier models. The system is lighter and simpler, and the gear range is well-suited for city riding. The single-speed version aims for maximum simplicity, while the 12-speed combines both approaches.

The limitations remain clear. Small wheels and compact geometry affect stability at higher speeds and over longer distances. The T Line remains an urban bike – but one that has been refined much further than previous models.

In the Polish market, prices exceed 20,000 PLN. This is a level that immediately narrows the target audience. On the other hand, it is difficult to speak of accidental pricing here. Titanium is an expensive material, production is more demanding, and the design itself – especially in the first series – is refined in detail. This is not a bike designed for a broad audience. Rather, it is for those who know what they are looking for and will be able to utilize its advantages in everyday use.
